My paintings are a subconscious journey of discovery, an opportunity to step into a spatial dimension taking delight in a different and perverse world. A place where imagination triumphs reality. As an artist I am stimulated by external objects, common everyday objects that allow me to paint the intimate and private visions of my thoughts at a particular time. An inner vision which brings with it a structure and liveliness of the dreamlike surfaces of my imagination. I paint oil on paper, using turpentine much like a water colorist would use water. Thin semi transparent layers of color are applied in varying number of layers. I don’t always understand the message that appears suddenly as I paint but the process eventually finds a purpose. The textures found in my paintings create new ways to envision landscapes through expressive unexpected detail, form and color. The viewer will discover forms within forms, to make the visible invisible creating these surreal landscapes to show us the other side of both ourselves and the universe.

My style is derived from my love of the surrealist movement in the 1920’s, particularly the work of Dali and Tanguy. Surrealism is a place where poets and painters works remain on the plane of emotional and imaginative creativity. To make painting into a field for their own mental explorations. To let that unknown take possession of one’s brush.

I therefore invite you, the viewer, to indulge your imagination giving you multiple ways of interpreting my imagery, making it very personal to each individual viewer based on their own conceptions. To take the journey through discovery by traversing the trail left by the intense detail and enjoying the freedom of the ride.
